Building & Construction Lawyer

Reports to: Principal Lawyer / Director
Employment Type: Full-time but flexible for the right candidate

Position Summary

The ideal candidate will ensure the smooth running of building & construction advice and dispute resolution case management under the supervision of the Principal Lawyer and two other lawyers of the firm. Focus is residential building & construction but also with some commercial building matters.

This individual will communicate frequently with the clients in order to serve them adequately and therefore must have excellent communication skills.

Our office is based in Williamstown, with the option of some remote working or flexibility in hours available.

The ideal candidate would also be willing to advance their career and develop new skills in the other practice areas offered by the firm.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a valued team member with the other 3 lawyers and external consultants
  • Handle communications with clients both in person, on the phone and via written correspondence
  • Collating and preparing litigation documents
  • General file management / administrative tasks

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience minimum 3 PAE
  • Familiarity with law, legal procedures, and protocols
  • Excellent computer skills and communication skills
  • Exceptional skills in Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint

Experience will be considered as a bonus

  • Experience in building & construction law
  • Experience in litigation (Supreme Court, County Court, Magistrates Court, VCAT)
  • LEAP experience

Conveyancer

Reports to: Principal Lawyer / Director
Employment Type: Part-time – suits school hours

Position Summary:

We are looking for a licensed Conveyancer with a strong understanding of Victorian property law, conveyancing processes, and the regulatory landscape. In this role, you will be responsible for managing property transactions from start to finish, including residential, commercial, and off-the-plan projects. This position is ideal for someone with exceptional attention to detail, a proactive approach, and a passion for delivering outstanding client service.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end property transactions, including contract review, property transfers, and settlement processes.
  • Conduct thorough title and property searches, identify any issues, and liaise with relevant parties to resolve them.
  • Draft and review legal documents such as sale contracts, section 32 statements, and other conveyancing-related documents.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, real estate agents, mortgage brokers, banks, and other stakeholders to facilitate smooth transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with Victorian conveyancing laws and regulations, and stay up-to-date with any legislative changes.
  • Use conveyancing software to maintain accurate records, manage tasks, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Provide guidance and support to clients throughout the property settlement process, addressing their concerns, and offering sound advice.
  • Manage trust account transactions in line with legal requirements and firm policies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Conveyancer License (Victorian) or a qualified Conveyancer with the necessary certifications.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a conveyancing role, ideally with a focus on Victorian property transactions.
  • In-depth knowledge of Victorian property and conveyancing laws.
  • Proficiency in conveyancing software (e.g., PEXA) and general office software (e.g., MS Office).
  • Experience managing various transaction types (residential, commercial, and off-the-plan) is highly desirable.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on delivering a high level of client service.
