Friend in Me (FIM) is a registered Australian charity that promotes inclusion and acceptance in at risk and disadvantaged children through sensory friendly events, workshops and programs.
One of the aims of the FIM organisation is to reduce the feelings of loneliness and isolation that children can experience by bringing families together to meet, share, laugh and connect with each other all whilst raising money for charity.
And after two years in the making thanks to COVID, on Sunday we finally got to see the smiles on the kids’ faces at the FIM Community Family Day event!
This was the 4th annual Community Family Day event for FIM, which was held at the iconic Melbourne Showgrounds. There were over 2,000 people at the event on the day, which is a fantastic turn-out. It was so wonderful to see friends and families coming together and having fun. Watching everyone take part in activities, dancing to the stage performances and getting photos with their favourite superhero. But the best part was seeing all the children (and adults) smiling as everyone was included, no matter what! #nochildleftbehind!
This event is the major fundraising event for FIM – and it was so heart-warming to see people give so generously in these difficult times. Whether it was by volunteering, having a stand, donations or simply attending, it was amazing.
The event included:
- Entertainers on stage including the very popular Bethany Fisher, Team Dream, Kids Disco Party and Elsa and Anna
- Jumping castle
- Face painting
- Fighting Lyons Fitness
- Mermaid Jessie
- Nick Love Cartoons
- The Fun Pad
- Koala Kids
- Barbie car
- Playdoughology
- Reptiles
- Liberty Swing
- Tattoos
- Roaming superheros, transformers, dinosaurs, princess, Bob the Builder
- Williams Ready had all the sensory needs covered
… just to name a few
It was a day when everyone who attended was surrounded by magic, dance, laughter and fun while empowering social inclusion.
Donna is truly honoured to be the Legal Counsel on the board of FIM. Watching this charity make a difference in so many children’s (and families’) lives is beyond wonderful.
